Amanda's Great South Louisiana Hot Chocolate

By Betty Ignante

Most folks think you will find the best hot chocolate in Maine, Vermont, North Dakota, Wisconsin and other snow belt states.

But, do not overlook the hot chocolate in South Louisiana, where the winters are almost nonexistent but the hot chocolate is terrific.

Among the top hot chocolate makers I know is Amanda, a busy university administrator and mother of two young children. Here is the recipe she uses to make hot chocolate mix for her family and the lucky families with whom she shares it.

Start with 10 cups of dry powdered milk.

Add 2 1/2 cups of Coffee-Mate or a similar product.

Fold in eighteen ounces of cocoa mix. Amanda uses Nestle's.

Finally, dump in a cup and a quarter of powdered sugar and mix all the ingredients together thoroughly.

When the mixture is completed, add two heaping teaspoons to a cup of hot water to try it, and add a bit more of any ingredient to suit your taste. It is great as is, but I generally add a bit more cocoa.

Whether you make a last minute ingredient adjustment or not, you'll love it. Your friends and family will too. - 16459
