Health Insurance for Tennessee

By Jeff Cline

There are a multitude of health insurance option for the residents of Tennessee. You can find options to meet most peoples needs and budget. The 3 main sources of health insurance is individual, group or employed sponsered and governement programs.

Sometimes the most affordable option is group health insurance with your employer. Many times the employer pays a percentage of the premium cutting your cost. Everyone in the group is eligible, even if they have a medical condition. Making this plan the most popular for those with a pre existing condition.

There are some advanatages and disadvantages to group insurance. First, you do not get to choose the plan or carrier. Second, the premiums can sometimes be very expensive if you have a group with many high risk employees. And even if your employer pays your premium, they may not pay for your dependants.

If you are not eligible for a group plan or can not afford the premiums you could go with a individual or family plan. Many majoe carriers offer this type of plan. They have hundreds of plans and benefits ready to meet your needs and budget. All you do is pick and enroll.

Individual health insurance gives you freedom to choose your plan as you see fit. Many people love this freedom. They do not have to be stuck in the low benefit plan their employer offers them. The disadvantage some people may have is that they individually underwrite. So if you have a medical condition that is high risk they may decline you.

Tennessee also has a program for those individuals that are declined health insurance due to a medical condition. Access TN is a program that will supply healthinsurance for these individuals if they meet the criteria. There are several other options for Tennessee residents as well.

Tennessee CoverKids health insurance program is another excellent program offered to residents. This plan is for eligible pregnant mothers and children up to the age of 18. This is for residents that can not get government help, but can not afford health insurance on their own.

The residents of Tennessee have many options available to them. It is just a matter of deciding on your expectations and a budget. If you are need of low income government funded options go to your local Tennessee Department of Human Services. - 16459
