I bought a new TV back in July because I love sport generally and the Olympics in particular. Now I knew I wanted something big screen so as to really enhance my Beijing experience but the choice to go just that bit further with HD was the best decision of all.
HD stands for high definition and you know what TV stands for, right? The difference between HDTV and regular TV is clear to see, literally. HD sends out its' images in a much higher resolution. It is a visual experience closer to cinema than to TV. The HDTV screen is and oblong in the ration of sixteen to nine (16 units wide by 9 units tall). The resolution is a sexy 1920 by 1080 just like the cinema. The TV companies broadcast in high definition while regular TV act like a screen between the viewer and the signal. Not so with HD.
HDTV will allow you to see your special programs at a level of quality to make you feel that you are really in the audience of a live event. The feeling of reality will increase in proportion to the size of the TV, bigger sets equals better experiences. What's more no squashed movie scenes and out of proportion movie stars and no black bars to spoil your viewing.
Here come the science bits; Thanks to the greater bandwidth the color definition on a HDTV will be more lifelike. Images will be between two and five times more detailed. The scanning lines are nearly invisible. Add to it 'surround sound' stereo and your viewing experience is nearly complete. HDTV is mostly broadcast in surround sound. For the serious sports fan there is no real competition.
I know that a lot of so-called technological innovations are just so much hype, but I can swear from personal experience that HDTV is the biggest step forward since the advent of color. So good you could invite all your fellow sports fans around to watch the big game and charge them admission. - 16459
