How Are Promotional Mugs Printed?

By Montgomery Preston

Promotional mugs that are beautifully designed and printed are one of the most exciting add-ons that a company offers to associates or customers, both existing and potential. But do you know how the printing on these mugs is accomplished?

There are numerous ways to print a promotional mug and these depend on different factors including the material of the mug, colour, and design and of course, the budget. Some of the most common ways are screen printing, dye sublimation printing, laser etching, transfer printing and digital printing.

Screen printing is usually used when the colors stay to themselves. Usually simpler designs are used for screen printing. This is a very cost effective way to make mugs in mass quantities.

The transfer printing process, on the other hand, is done when the designs involve intricate cuts or curves and need fine detailing. The process does not involve direct printing onto the promotional mug. It is first printed on the transfer paper and then applied to the surface with the hand.

Digital printing is like transfer printing, like the digital printers people use. IF the design has pictures or needs high resolution, this is more effective. Laser printers are used, making it more expensive and not a massly produced. But if you are making use of photos in your design, it is a good choice.

There are so many designs available lately, and new ones are constantly popping up. To find the best pringing method for your needs, talk to a mug designer who has been around and is experienced. - 16459
